18 Days until the library closes

We're counting down the final days in the old Gibson library on Water Street and Basic. We're down to 18 today (Wednesday), although it doesn't seem real... yet. Once the books start getting packed, then it will sink in for everyone :) The old library will close May 15. We hope to have the new library open at the beginning of July. The new library is located at 100 W Lake Mead Pkwy. It's in the Target shopping center at the corner of Water St and W Lake Mead Pkwy.

Last week we saw the electricity go on and the building lit up. Here's what's going on this week...

Adult fiction and nonfiction will be shelved here. The windows straight ahead have a lovely view of Sunrise Mountain.

Lights, that is...

The most significant change this week is that the power is on and the lights are lit. A lot easier to see inside and it makes the move seem more imminent. Take a look!

Lots of air conditioning ducts this week going up

Most of the obvious changes this week were a little hard to take a picture of without the good camera (aka the camera with a flash). The air conditioning ducts are in place which is very important since we hope to open mid summer.

Detailed tilework view in the columns of the entrance

The preparation for the tilework on the back of the building, which will be the same as the tile at the main entrance once that's put in place.

Two photos showing the southwest corner of the building. The crane is there to put up the awning that will be over the drive-through window.

Getting closer....

The walls are almost completely painted and most of the windows are in. Take a look!

The main entrance now has sliding glass doors.
